Zara | One Month Update

How is my baby a month old already? Pretty sure I was only finding out I was pregnant last week. I really am struggling to believe that Zara is a whole month old, the time really is passing far too quickly. I’m pretty sure that time passes faster with each child you have, either that or the sleep deprivation does funny things with your brain haha.

Zara seems to have grown so much faster than Keira and Joshua did, I guess that’s part to do with her weighing more at birth though. Zara weighed 8lbs 3oz when born and at 10 days old she weighed 8lbs 8oz. I haven’t managed to get Zara weighed since, in fact I actually forgot that Monday’s were weighing days so I’ll have to take her next week now. She’s currently in size ‘up to a month’ clothing which goes up to 10lbs but I don’t think it’ll be long before she’s in 0-3 months so I’ve started buying clothes for her so we’re ready.

Zara actually sleeps really well and I am honestly so surprised about that. Keira and Joshua were terrible sleepers (and still are, will they ever sleep through?!). Although Zara doesn’t sleep through, she does go a good 5 hours between feeds at night and that is plenty for us right now! Even if she does sleep in our bed, there was never any chance she was going to settle in the moses basket.

At the start we had a bit of hiccups with breastfeeding, Zara wouldn’t open her mouth wide enough which would end up with a poor latch and sore nipples. But after a week of battling through it all we done it! We’ve perfected our latch and breastfeeding is so comfortable, easy and natural. Zara is a very efficient feeder and it can take anything between 4 and 8 minutes to finish a feed, which is perfect because I can tend to the two monkeys quicker if need be. We currently feed every hour to 2 hours during the day, clearly making up for all that lost time at night.

We got our first smile!! Monday 26th September at 3 weeks old exactly! There was nothing windy about it either. Zara even showed off her cute little dimples, just like her brother and sister have. Zara has also took an interest in the toys on her playmat. She enjoys looking at the toys and she even gives them a little hit every now and then.

Like most newborns, Zara loves a chest to sleep. It’s definitely her favourite place to sleep. She also likes it when we sing to her, that always gets her to smile. The only thing Zara currently dislikes is getting out of the bath. She will scream the house down as soon as she gets out!

It’s taken Joshua a while to come round to Zara being here, but he always rushing over to say hello and give her a kiss each morning and he loves to sit with her when she’s on the playmat. Keira is smitten. Not a moment goes by where she isn’t talking to Zara, singing to her or giving her a kiss. It’s the sweetest thing ever.
