Zara | 4 Months Old

Wow, another month. Surely by now someone has discovered a way to slow down time? These babies just don’t want to stay as babies, at all. So much has happened the last month and it feels like there is so much to update you all on!

It certainly doesn’t feel like Zara is 4 months old. She’s still only tiny after all. Considering she was my biggest baby she’s certainly the slowest grower.

We got Zara weighed on the 4th January and she was 11lbs 14oz, so close to that 12lbs mark and it seems that she’s having a slow weight gain. I originally got her weighed on the 12th December where she was 11lbs 4oz, when born she was on the 75th centile but that weigh in had knocked her all the way down to the 9th! So I had to get her re-weighed on the 4th to see if she dropping any more. Thankfully she remained on the 9th centile. So we need to re-weigh at the beginning of February to see where she’s at. I’m sure it’s just her finding her perfect weight.

Still no set routine but she’s following the same pattern of waking between 7 and 8am and going to bed around 8pm.

Sleep is a touchy subject in this house. Zara is not a good sleeper at all. Gone are those random days of her waking once or twice, in fact that was pretty short lived, not long after she turned 3 months came to hourly wakings. The exhaustion is real. She’s still in our bed though. We’ve also hit the 4 month sleep regression, which doesn’t really affect the nights because we’re awake already, but it’s affecting her day naps. Each nap is a huge struggle, the fight is so hard. Zara will probably have 3 or 4 half hour/45 minute naps. There is no rest at all.

Zara is still exclusively breastfed and I am so proud of myself for getting this far. She’s still an efficient feeder, taking anything from 5 to 10 minutes. Still going every 2 hours during the day though.

Zara is still in 0-3 months clothes although we are slowly swapping them over to 3-6 months now and she’s still wearing a size 3 nappy.

Ah it’s been a huge one for milestones! Zara gave us her first giggle on the 21st December, ever since then she’s blessed us with the cutest giggle every time we do something silly. Zara also gave us a lovely present on Christmas day, she rolled over from belly to back. Although she’s only done it a handful of times since, but Keira and Joshua were never really rollers. They done it a few times and that was it, never saw it happen again.

Still no signs of teething, which I am grateful for. I don’t think I could handle no sleep and teething at the same time. Zara’s favourite thing at the moment is to chew her hands. She always has something in her a mouth but her hands are her favourite. She’s also found her feet, fascinating things they must be!

Lovely post and what a lovely way to document her growing up – I wish we had done this when Lily was a baby 🙂

What a beautiful daughter you have! Try not to let the weight get to you! Each baby is different and health visitors like us to be very "by the book" (or at least that was my experience!) Well done for being EBF! I am still breastfeeding my 13 month old 🙂 Siobhan x
