Whether it is you that is having a baby or you want to buy something extra-special for someone who is having a baby, picking the right products or gifts can be a daunting task. Many people worry about buying the most expensive gift, the most educational toy, or the trendiest outfits, but, how many people stop to consider the safety standards of anything meant for a baby? Besides, the last thing you would want to do is buy a toy that is not appropriate for a new born baby or even synthetic clothing that may harm the baby’s skin. Here are a few guidelines to help you choose gifts that are safe for a baby.
When it comes to buying toiletries for a baby, the safest bet is to choose all-natural soaps and shampoos. Pick products that are produced from plant-based formulas or even from oatmeal which is great for baby’s sensitive skin. You may also want to look at organic, milk-based bath soaps which will soother baby’s tender skin and help to keep the skin hydrated.
Before choosing toys, make sure you read the requirements carefully, regardless of whether you shop on a land-based store or look for unique baby gifts online. You do not want the little recipient swallowing a piece of a toy and choking. A good rule of thumb is to ensure that toys are about 2 inches wide and 3 inches long. Don’t give the baby anything that is breakable, either.
If you have your heart set on new clothes for the new born, opt for organic materials, like organic cotton, which has not been treated with chemicals during farming. You may also want to get the new mom non-toxic laundry detergent that is also organic to keep clothing soft, fresh, and safe.
4. Gift Baskets
Gift baskets are wonderful gifts for new parents and babies. They usually include high-quality, safe, baby-appropriate gifts. Best of all, you can pick themes for your gift basket, such as baby bath time accessories, playtime toys, and even a basket filled with appropriate teething toys and soothing creams and gels. The choices are endless.
A Few Things to Remember
If you want to buy baby dishes and bottles, always choose those that are BPA free. The chemical, BPA, has been banned in most bottles and sippy cups for several years now due to the harmful reactions reported. Sadly, the chemical is reported to get worse as you wash dishes and bottles in a dishwasher since the chemical is then absorbed by everything else in the dishwasher. It is not mandatory for new baby dishes, bottles, and utensils to be marked, so be sure to read before buying.
Finally, head online and check out information and ratings to see what other consumers have thought about the products or items you want to buy. Take a look at safety standard, especially, and take note of any items that have been recalled, especially when it comes to toys, car seats, and strollers. Keep these tips in mind and you’re sure to find the perfect gifts.
