I know I am not alone when I say I hate teething. It is the biggest pain in the bum, ever! I am sick of seeing my babies in pain and not being able to stop it – only briefly take the discomfort away. All if this goes on for ages as well without a tooth even popping through. There are so many gimmicky teething aids out there, and most of them prove pretty useless. I recently wrote a post about the teething products from Nuby that we love, you can see that here.
The new craze at the moment is Matchstick Monkey and boy is he adored in the baby community. I can see why, he’s a cute little fella! We were sent our own little pink dude to test and review!
Teething is driving me barmy and I was getting completely fed up of having to hold teething toys for Zara because they were too big or too heavy for her to hold and it was getting tiresome. I was desperate for something small and light, cue Matchstick Monkey.
Matchstick Monkey is made from a super soft, and safe, silicone and it is super bendy as well as being really chewy – perfect for chomping on. He has these little thin arms that are the perfect size for baby’s little hands. Which was a real problem with a lot of other teething toys, they were just too big. Not Matchstick Monkey! He is FDA and BPA approved, coming in not 1 but 8 different colours.
It took us a few days to accept this little pink guy – Zara wasn’t 100% sure of him. She showed little interest in him the first few days of him being around her but the more she saw him, the more she grew an interest. Before I knew it she was chomping away, mainly on his little white tail or his feet. We have a small selection of toys that we keep out at all times and the Matchstick Monkey is one of them. I like to keep him, and the other toys, in an easy to reach place because they’re some of Zara’s favourites and always the ones she goes to first.
No matter which way she chews him, the monkey offers her some relief on those sore gums while her teeth play havoc. What I love is that on the back of the monkey’s head he has a set of bristles. These are perfect for helping to promote oral hygiene early on because you can gently brush baby’s gums with it, almost like a toothbrush. The added bonus of these bristles is that you can apply a teething gel to them and then apply it to baby’s gum. The perfect solution to saving those fingers when your baby does get some pearly whites through – those little pegs are super sharp!
So did we like the little Matchstick Monkey? Of course we did, he’s the perfect addition to our teething toys and he offers loads of comfort for Zara’s gums during this difficult time.
