For as long as I can remember Joshua has always been obsessed with construction vehicles. He has a huge collection of excavators, backloaders, dump trucks, bulldozers and various other vehicles associated with construction. In fact, for his second birthday, his nana and grandad bought him a ride on excavator that takes pride in our living room.
So when we were offered to review the Kinetic Rock – Rock Crusher set there was no way I could turn it down. I knew Joshua was going to be the happiest little boy in the world!
When it arrived, both Joshua and Keira begged and begged to get it out and play with it straight away. We hadn’t long purchased our first set of Kinetic sand and they loved playing with that so I knew that it was going to be fun. Even though Joshua isn’t a fan of sand on his hands, I think it may be a sensory issue he has, he took quite well to the Kinetic sand and I think that was because it stuck together and didn’t stick to his hands. When I opened the Kinetic Rock, I knew he was going to have a problem with the texture. It was like little stones held together with glue. Joshua touched it and immediately decided that he didn’t like the feel of it so he used the vehicle provided in the set to play with the sand.
The Kinetic Rock set comes with a dump truck and bucket, a rock crusher, a figurine, a rock mound, a tool, a sign and a transformable sand box. Oh and of course it includes 340g of Kinetic Rock, which personally I think isn’t much if you need to share it between children but you do have the option to purchase more if need be.
Joshua absolutely loved picking the Kinetic rock up with the dump truck (which is like a dump truck and excavator in one) and after a while he got all of his construction vehicles out to use. Keira was obsessed with filling the rock crusher, it was really easy for her to fill and turn the handle to “crush” all the rocks out.
The Kinetic Rock is really sticky, which is great when it comes to tidying up because, like Play Doh, you can pick it all up together. I did still find random bits of rock on the floor a while after we’d put it all away and it stuck pretty well to the bottom of my socks. I found the stickiness wasn’t quite so bad once you’d mushed it around in your hands after a while, and my hands weren’t sticky once I’d put it down.
Overall the kids loved this set and they always ask to play with the Kinetic Rock over the sand. As soon as Zara goes to sleep they ask to get it out and they never want to put it away once Zara wakes up (she tries to eat it so we only get it when she’s asleep). It’s a fantastic set for children to explore their imaginations and it encourages sensory play.
We were sent the Kinetic Rock for the purpose of this review, however all opinions are my own. Please see my Disclosure page for more information. This post contains an affliate link.
