37 weeks: Your baby is about the size of a bunch of Swiss chard
Your baby measures roughly 19 inches from head to heel and weighs about 6 1/3 pounds.
Ahhh we’re finally at term!! It felt like we were never going to get here but we did! I am so relieved that we have actually made it to 37 weeks after all the hassle at the start. There was always that niggling worry at the back of my mind that we would have to be induced earlier than expected and that she’d need lots of help from the doctors and nurses, but it’s really starting to look hopeful now!
SYMPTOMS Funnily enough, most of the symptoms that I was experiencing last week seem to have died off, apart from that damn backache! I do still get terrible braxton hicks, mostly at night or when I’m walking, and they’re some good tightenings. Apart from that there are no signs of labour or any indication that baby will be making an appearance any time soon. I have noticed an increase in discharge though, a lot of mucus globs in there too so I can only assume that bits of my mucus plug have been falling off from the pressure of baby!
APPOINTMENTS Now I know this is the part everyone wants to read. So as I’m sure you’re aware by now, we had our growth scan this week (at 36+4 weeks) and it was the one that decided what we were going to be doing. So I went in mentally prepared to be told that she was still below the 10th centile and that we were going to be induced. I was, however, pleasantly surprised! Baby is back up to the 10th centile, which is a great weight gain! During our appointment with the consultant, we were told that there isn’t any need to be induced at 37 weeks now, which of course is fantastic news! We are booked in for another blood flow and doppler scan next week (at 37+4 weeks) and then another growth scan at 38+4 weeks where we will have the situation reassessed after seeing what her growth is like. The consultant has written in my notes that if there are any concerns at the blood flow and doppler scan, or if I have to go back in for reduced movements then they are to book me in for an induction.
FEELING I am over the moon right now because I have a greater chance of labour starting naturally and I have more chance of getting the birth I want. As much as I’d love a home birth, I’m going to have to wait to see how the next growth scan goes before I can make any decisions on that. Although I have spoken with my midwife about it and she said that as long as baby isn’t under the 10th centile, I can push for a home birth if that’s what I feel is best.
BABY She’s doing really well, her movements are so strong now and she loves to tell me how I can sleep at night. Feels almost comical that no matter what side I lie on, she’ll kick me around so that I have to swap signs and she’ll do that until she falls asleep herself! Cheeky moo already. I now have literally everything for mine and baby’s hospital bags so I am ready to go! The only thing I am hoping to get before she arrives is a sleep aid.
EXCITED ABOUT Mainly I’m excited for the chance to see if my body will go into labour naturally, being something I’ve never experienced it would make the perfect labour if it was to happen. Me and Darren have already put in our due date guesses, he thinks she’ll arrive on the 22nd and I’m guessing the 31st. Yes, it is after my due date but I really have a good feeling that we’ll be able to go to our due date and beyond but I don’t think I’ll get the September that I want haha.
