34 weeks: Your baby is about the size of cantaloupe
Your melon-sized munchkin now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds and is almost 18 inches long from head to heel.
Since my last update at 32 weeks I have been so ridiculously busy organising and focusing on Joshua’s first birthday. Now all of that is over, and there’s no other events coming up, I can focus on all things baby! With every update I always say how boring and quiet the last week has been, not mention the lack of symptoms. This week seems to have sparked something within, I’ve got symptoms left right and center!
SYMPTOMS Nothing delights me more than heartburn, but it’s really taking a turn for the worst now. I can feel the acid just resting at the top of my throat and nothing gets rid of it. Not even sitting up! With both of my previous pregnancies I suffered with pregnancy gingivitis which went away after I’d given birth, I thought I was having a lucky escape this time but no it’s hit me hard! My gums are so swollen and sore, I’m in agony every time I need to brush my teeth so most days I’m relying heavily on Corsodyl mouthwash. My dentist advised that I was just one of the unlucky ones but as it cleared after my other pregnancies, it should this time but he’ll check once baby’s here just to be sure. I haven’t really suffered with shortness of breath this time, I do feel like I’m carrying lower so I guess that has a great part to play. The only time I do suffer is at night if I try to lie on my back. I feel like something is crushing my lungs and I really struggle to breath! Another new symptom this week is a pain in my bum, literally. I cannot for the life of me describe but I only ever get it on the one side and it’s so painful, I can barely walk when it springs up and I definitely can’t sit on it. No idea what could be causing it but I remember the same pain with previous pregnancies.
APPOINTMENTS So I had my growth scan at 32 weeks and 4 days, this one went much better than the others. We had a trainee so we got to see baby on the screen for longer which was just lovely, and they reassured us that baby is definitely still a girl. She was not shy about showing her private area! But overall the scan went really well! It showed us that she had grown loads and was now plotting on the 10th centile, meaning she’s still small but she’s gaining a good amount of weight. We saw the consultant after and she advised that if baby continues to grow and goes above the 10th centile at the next growth scan then we won’t need anymore and can continue with our hopes of seeing the due date and a homebirth! However, if baby continues plotting on the 10th centile, or drops below it again, then we’ll still need an early induction between 37 and 38 weeks. So I really, really have my fingers crossed that she continues with this fantastic weight gain! I also had a blood flow and doppler scan at 33 weeks and 4 days, everything seemed normal during that too, which is fab news!
FEELING Oh I am definitely over being pregnant already, and I still have so many weeks to go before baby makes her appearance! I have been well though, despite all my rubbish symptoms. I’m still my sleep in, as long as Joshua sleeps that is, which definitely helps!
BABY Baby seems to be doing well. She’s growing and gaining a steady weight, which of course is fantastic news! At 32 weeks she was weighing approximately 3lb 9oz, Keira was 7lbs 1oz and Joshua was 7lbs but I don’t think she’ll gain 4lbs in 6(ish) weeks. She’s got some proper strong kicks too! She knows when the best time is to surprise kick me in the ribs, I swear I must carry internal bruises!!
EXCITED ABOUT Everything! I can’t believe we’re getting so close to the end, it was only a few weeks ago that I was saying how slow and relaxed this pregnancy was going but that changed so quickly. I’m definitely excited for my next growth scan, although I’m not getting my hopes up too much, but I’d definitely like to get to my due date!
